The Cover of the Day is "Summertime Blues" written by Eddie Cochran and his manager Jerry Capehart. The song was released as a single B-side in August 1958 and peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 18 on the UK Singles Chart. The song was recorded at Gold Star Recording Studios in Hollywood, California. Eddie Cochran sang both the vocal and bass vocal, played all the guitar parts, and added the hand clapping. Cochran is considered the original rock-n-rolling, ... sharp-dressed, bad boy and died way too early in a car crash while on tour in England. He was only 21. Rolling Stone magazine ranked him #84 on its list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time.

"Summertime Blues" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999 and is ranked #73 in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The song is also on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum list of "The Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll". It has been covered by many artists including Alan Jackson, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Olivia Newton-John, Bruce Springsteen, Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Rush, The Black Keys, Alvin and the Chipmunks, The Stones, and The Little River Band to name a few.

Eddie Cochran - Summertime Blues

My favorite cover of this song is by the hard rocking band Blue Cheer who recorded their version of "Summertime Blues" in 1967 and included it on their 1968 release entitled "Vincebus Eruptum." The single made it to #11 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their fuzzy, distorted, heavy metal version is ranked #73 on the list of "The 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time" by Rolling Stone. This was the first heavy metal song to ever make the pop charts, beating both Steppenwolf's "Born To Be Wild" and Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" by months. I had this song on their greatest hits album ("Louder Than God") which I had on cassette and played it until the tape turned to magnetic spaghetti in the machine. bodycon sexy style items for prom
